What is a PRICAT message?

The PRICAT (Price/Sales Catalogue) message is used by suppliers to share their product and pricing master data with buyers. It is typically the first EDI message in a new trading relationship, sent before any orders can be placed, and it is reissued whenever products, prices, or promotional conditions change.

A PRICAT can contain new article listings, price updates, promotional pricing windows, product discontinuations, and packaging specifications. Buyers load PRICAT data into their ERP or buying system to validate incoming orders and ensure invoice prices match agreed contract prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PRICAT and GS1 Global Data Synchronisation?

GS1 GDSN (via data pools like 1WorldSync or Salsify) is a global registry for public product master data — dimensions, weight, descriptions, and images. PRICAT is a bilateral EDI message for customer-specific pricing and commercial terms, shared directly between a supplier and a specific buyer. They complement each other.

Can PRICAT include multiple currencies?

Yes. The CUX segment defines the catalogue currency at header level, and individual price lines can reference different currencies for multi-country catalogues. Buyers' ERP systems apply the relevant exchange rate for their local currency.

How are promotional prices handled in PRICAT?

Promotional prices use PRI with qualifier AAE (promotional price) combined with DTM 194/206 segments to define validity start and end dates. Some implementations use SCC (scheduling conditions) to link the promotional price to specific order windows.
